Lava Trees-Reunion Island
Acrylic on canvas with gold foil and paper
40" by 75"
2007
$10000

Acrylic paint on canvas over wood frame, border is gold foil and leaf.
The lava trees in this painting are located on Reunion Island, and painted from reference photo by Serge Gelabert.
These tall lava trees formed when lava cooled and solidified around the trunks of trees before the peak part of the flow drained away.
Fluid basaltic lava may preserve the shapes of trees and other objects by solidifying around them.
