On a trip to Iceland in winter of 2018, I painted in whiteout conditions. I hoped to see the neon colors of auroras in the north polar sky, but they were hidden under a white cloud layer that merged with the white snow surface. Colors appearing to be pushed back, peek in and out of the white, slowly revealing a narrative. My process of painting morphed meaning and convention, creating more fluid constructs; horizon lines are obscured, distances are distorted, and perceptions of space continually change shape.
